    RIP.

That generation found a way to revive the music and give it the humph factor without it loosing any of its character, and all the while having genuine fun with it.

Mr M says Alec would be well able for a session (and party) on tour while also being professional and gentle.
I'm sure I must have met him once or twice myself but I didn't really know the man, his music though...
The sound of his bouzouki playing has a taste of home to me, this is what I heard when I first became acquainted with Irish music (some 23 years ago !).
It has subtlety and drive, just what I like.

    Literally who?
    a) There is no need to use 'literally'. It makes no sense.
    b) Your question is answered in the first lines of the OP?
    c) Just because you dont know someone doesnt mean they are not well known.

Leave him alone, he's just a young lad after all... :D

The likes of these guys are a dying breed unfortunately, and music will be a worse place without it...

Even though I don't like a lot of it, I respect it...

Did he play for U2 or something?

This is one of my favourite pieces of De Danann, the O'Carolan number Mr O'Connor which I had been playing all day yesterday and will play today again. From the 1980 Mist Covered Mountain album period and the classic lineup of Alec Finn, Frankie Gavin, Jackie Daly, Charlie Piggott and Johnny 'Ringo' McDonagh and guest singers.

And they deserve it for having to spend time with gossuns like this. At least we can choose to ignore idiots, but they have to work with the dregs some parents send in to them. Not enough money in the world is there.

Its a Galway thing, I've lived there quite a lot of my life and Alec was a familiar face around these parts, it depends where you are located, if you are in Dublin or whatever, De Danann probably just played the odd gig there and Cork and around the world for that matter. But if you liked your pure drop Irish trad you would definitely know his face and his skills.

I'd say he was more of a fan of the traditional German outfit.

Does not knowing some guitar player in some band for old folks make someone a lesser person?

I mean this sincerely, because youd be surprised how much people dont know who this lad is

What makes you a lesser person is coming onto an RIP thread where people tend to offer condolences and **** around by asking “who”. When in fact who was explained in the very first post.

Nor does anybody care that you don’t know who this guy is. His fame was explained.

Either say something nice or just an RIP. Or don’t post.

Im going to go with nope, it doesnt. At least I hope not because I didnt know who he was until I read the OP. I like Irish trad music but Im not very well up on its names so its always interesting to find out more.
And so you know for again, it was trying to undermine a thread that is a tribute to someone who the OP and clearly many others know and whose talent they admired, that make the lesser person. The tributes and the attached videos that the poster took the time to include did not warrant your 'Literally who?' so no need to pretend that was curiosity.

Mod- Just because you don't know someone does not give you the right to troll an RIP thread.

Kindly fück off and do not post in this thread again.
