NCT failure

Can someone clear this up please

I just brought my car to NCT tonight ...( 2 months early)

Failed on tyres marked Dangerous. along with usual bulbs and tracking up front.

Big sheet stapled to front about the consequences of driving.
    needed to get it home
Rang the main centre and after going away to speak to someone he said it was ok to remove the car from test centre but advised me to get tryes done ASAP.. Get a visual inspection done for free at test centre ...the listing of dangerous removed from report then use the 28 days to get the other items
done. Current NCT stays valid and I can tax car again end of month,
SO whats the story ?... I need the car to get to work ,intend dropping in to tyre shop tomorrow ...failing this its the bus and time lost from work.
On the otherside I don't want to end up with accident penalty points fines
    VERY CONFUSED

    What's confusing?

Drop it into tyre centre tomorrow before work. Tell them you want 4 new tyres and get it tracked. Collect it after work (or at an agreed time) and drive it home.

Couldn't be simpler. Just maybe take a little more of it throughout the year

If the tyres are below the legal limit don't drive it, plenty of mobile tyre fitters will come to you.

    Yes all good advice but
If stopped by Garda while in process of driving to get tyres changed
Am I in trouble ? ..Why is what I have been told by Call centre different to
what is written on sheet >?

The risk of being stopped with dangerous tyres by the Gardai was surely the same as yesterday before the NCT told you?

I suppose the question is relating to a car that has a current nct being deemed dangerous. If he has a still valid nct, and he got new tyres in the morning, can they still have a no drive warning against a car that has valid nct.

    Couple of things...
You can't fail on Tracking specifically. Only Sideslip, which could be caused by worn Ball-joints, Track rod Ends....or possibly just tracking. but they usually tell you what caused the failure.
How many tyres were considered dangerous ? If it's just one have you a full-size spare that you could stick on until you get the dangerous one replaced ?
Regardless, you shouldn't have a problem just getting however many tyres replaced sometime tomorrow...after all you have been driving on these up until now.
As for failing for blown bulbs....that's just lazy. The easiest things to check and (in most cases) rectify .

Anyway, best of luck with the Re-test.

edit; why are you mentioning Taxing the Car....nothing to do with a valid NCT

I'd assume that's just the guy in the test centre following standard procedure when they find faults that are dangerous

..pretty much done to death on this thread Mick. I'd say Cinio had the best advice.

    2004 1.4 C3 Diesel 300000km on engine
    Expect 500? for parts labor
tyres ball joints links bumper stops so not sure if its worth the cost
only wanted to hold on for a few weeks till we get sorted with another
cheap run around for work, still does 65 ish to the gallon
As usual it will be taking whats available in our budget range 3/4k
Cant afford much else , just safety concern and getting in penalty point trouble concerns . borrowing a friends car in the morning if I can get insurance changed over in time ... Long shot anyone got a cheap diesel I live in the Blessington co Wicklow area

Yes, they've caught you driving a car in a dangerous condition which is an offence.
