Just missed a call from 0088213535245.
Doesn't look like a number I'd call back in a hurry.
Anyone recognise it? Assuming it is a scam.
    Many thanks!

its legit, call it back on two mobiles phones at the same time just to be safe. Top up call credit if needed just before.

    EDIT: dont do the above.

As far as scamming goes they're a level above the rest.

Its obviously a time traveller making call from an Eircell Ready to Go phone from 1998, I definitely think you should answer if they call back, they may have important information about the future....

I had a few calls the other day, I assumed that they were all scam calls, but one was work related...
I got an email saying he couldn't contact me. DOH!

I got another one this morning from Switzerland, why have these become so common?

    Answer them for the craic.

    You can't answer them.

They auto hang up after ringing with the idea being that you call them back at exorbitant premium rates.

me too - after getting a couple of those 088 numbers earlier in the week

A friend got one from a 00882 number last week. She also got one from a Swiss number.

I got one from a different 00882 number this week.

I've checked around, and the prevalence is increasing everywhere. Ireland, UK, Germany, NZ, Australia, US, etc. It seems the problem is definitely global and getting worse all the time.

There are many different 00882 numbers being used. Also many other country codes are being used. Sometimes the number is spoofed, so you can't even tell where it really originates.

It's the "Missed Call", "One Ring", Wangiri scam. Do NOT Ring back! The numbers are always premium cost lines. You would be charged a high initial call cost plus high cost per minute.

Worse still, I couldn't even block the number, it said it was an invalid number!!
