A friend has moved into a house in Dublin. There are no aerials or dishes on it. Only this box in pic.
What else does he need to get tv up and running?

Virgin Media cable network wall outlet, VM's supplied cable box connects to this outlet.

Not for TV, but if you want Virgin broadband you can get it through the same connection as the TV, or else use any of the other providers in the area.

He only wants TV. So he still needs to contact virgin and get a connection to that wall outlet. Whats the cost involved ? Thanks.

Can you receive saorview through aerial in the city? What about satellite dish for freesat? Ia there any problem with signal ? Probabaly easier to put up a dish and a freesat box

That's also an option. Most cities have decent Saorview reception I think.

Prob be cheapest option. He sent me this pic from out back of house which looks like the remains of a sky dish.

Although I see no cable entering the house anywhere near by.

Do you know which transmitter Dublin get the saorview signal from ?
    Three rock or Kippure?

Or an LNB... They'll need a new dish or aerial if they don't have one. They could try out a cheap indoor aerial on the off chance it works. If they're near the transmitter it might be fine. If not they should probably get an installer out once they decide what to go for.

If you can figure out that much then you already know more than me about TV reception in Dublin!

Aye the LNB is missing too. I'm not entirely sure it is a sky dish even. Thre's something odd about it. I have installed plenty of dishes and aerials over the years but its 100 mile to Dublin and I don't fancy it to be honest. Some landlords are quite fussy about this sort of thing as well I believe. A cheap indoor for starters and take it from there. ;)

Sky mesh dish alright, hanging upside down. I'd go with a new one including new wall bracket if going that route.
Regarding which Saorview transmitter , use the Saorview coverage checker, south Dublin would generally be Three Rock, Kippure otherwise

Think a new dish is his best option . ;)
