2007 B6 Passat gearbox noise - video

    Hey all.
My mates 2007 B6 Passat has a knocking in the front end going over small bumps, it's quite loud. (1.9 diesel I think) He brought it to FastFit last week and they diagnosed the drop links as the issue and swapped them, plus an alignment. €230 later and the noise is still there. Sounds like a classic FastFit story.

Anyways, this evening we took a look ourselves, stuck it up on stands. Wobbling both front wheels at 3 and 9 o'clock positions and 12 and 6 o'clock produces no noise or real movement, everything seems tight.

But on on rotating the wheels, you get the noise in the video. Regardless of whether its in gear or not.

Sounds very much like its coming from within the gearbox casing, not sure how these manuals are setup differential-wise but that would seem to me to be the problem.

So what would cause that noise, and would that produces a knocking noise over bumps?

    Thanks!
