Ticknock Woods was classified as a commercial forest up until relatively recently. 20 / 30 years back both horse riding and use of motocross bikes was prohibited yet widespread. Nowadays it's been re-classified as a recreational area. Coillte list the facilities on site as Walking Trails, Mountain Biking, Picnic Areas, Orienteering & Archaeological. It's a far different place than it was 20 years back and much more busy with families, people walking dogs, mountain bikers, etc. I wouldn't go up there on a motocross bike now TBH. The trails you saw are most likely MTB trails now.

I used to go up there years ago too, it's now over run with mountain bikers and walkers. All the trails have been taken over, it's too much hassle now
