30th Birthday travel trip advice required, NYC & Las Vegas

I've been to NYC a few years ago and have been dying to go back, so what better time than for my 30th birthday next year. My birthdays in July but I couldn't deal with the heat during the summer there again so I'm going to go in October instead.

I'm thinking of going to NYC for about 3/4 days then I'd love to fly to Vegas for a few days.

Do people think this is a good idea or will it be too tiring/too expensive?

Would love to hear some advise from people who may have previously visited both cities in the one trip and if you would reccommend?

    Hi GradGirl27

its very do-able depending on your budget. I havent done NY to LV, however did the whole West coast ending in Vegas and its a place to be seen! I would recommend you go there if you can. Las Vegas doesnt have to cost an arm and a leg either, look at hotels at the southern end of the strip like MGM, New York New York, Excalibur etc. its only a short walk up the Bellagio etc and you can go into all the casinos and get free drink in there too. have fun planning!

I would go to Vegas first. I'm actually probably doing this exact trip next year, having been to both individually, and as someone who typically does 2 cities when I visit America.

3 nights in Vegas, including the night you land. I'd use Aer Lingus multi trip from Dub to Vegas, then home from Jfk to Dublin. Check sky scanner for deals, then book with airline. Another airline might have a better deal. You'll need a one way flight in between with a baggage allowance. This trip will not be cheap but if you put away cash every week it's doable for sure. Could probably get all flights for 600 if you go at the right time of year.

You'll arrive late enough, around 8.30 - 10.30 I'd say, because there's no direct flight to Vegas. Depending on how tired you are you can check in to the hotel and go for a stroll.

There's plenty of activities in Vegas if you aren't a gambler. 2 full days (3 nights) there should be plenty though.

For hotels, location is the key for me. So ideally Caesers Palace, The Linq, The Mirage, The Flamingo. The Bellagio and The Venetian would be upper limit, both just on the edge of the centre. Hotel rooms are quite decent in Vegas as a rule, even the cheaper ones. If you're on a budget probably Flamingo and Linq will be cheaper - beside each other and the most central too.

The flight to New York will be about 5 hours. You will be losing time so try to get a flight no later than 10am. I would spend 4 nights in New York. I typically stay in a Hilton around Midtown - there are maybe 12 to choose from in that area now.
