Hi, I'm new to this but I'd give it ago. My engine in my 05 Passat 1.9tdi with bxe has started knocking recently. It has the dreaded bxe engine code. I've heard people being able to put in older awx and avf tdi in to it? Don't no how true this is.

They won't fit, people put in the older pd engines from the likes of a mk4 golf, bora, they can be made fit easily enough

AWX is not transverse, won't fit.

ASZ/ARL will fit with some modification (think there has to be a hole drilled in the block for the crank sensor for example)

Like is really worth the effort it old car

Thanks for letting me know it's and old car. I'm just looking for an alternative to the bxe engine because I really like the car. I know I could go out and pick one up for peanuts

An 05 Passat would have a BKC code engine fitted. Which won’t suffer from the dreaded BXE rod failure. If your engine is a BKC and is starting to make a knocking sound it’s probabky a worn cam and lifters. So no need to swap the whole engine.

It's a bxe engine I wish it was the bkc

It must have had an engine swap so, the first BXE engine was fitted in mid 06 so your car could not have had one originally

I have a very good asz 130hp engine here from a 2002 bora, only 154k miles, if you are going down that route.
