In process of buying a second hand 2014-15 car more than likely a golf , based in the south but in Dublin midweek . Remember someone saying cars were more expensive in Dublin due to more money floating round there ? Is this true and if not anyone recommend a decent value reputable spot in greater Dublin area for a golf ??

Here is a list of dealers in Dublin:

Like anywhere there will be good and bad dealers so research the particular dealer too in order to ensure their warranty and after sales are worth the paper it's written on. Also it really depends how far you are willing to travel for the right car and the right deal. I'm in the midwest and bought my current car in Dublin, wasn't a huge choice in them around the country but the garage I bought from were decent to deal with. They have a good reputation but no issues with the car since buying it last April. Just remember that cheapest doesn't mean best value.

I have never heard cars are dearer in Dublin because "more money floating around". Rather there are more cars in the pale to compete with one another so prices can be less.
Tbh, it's hard to say without comparing cars brand/models over a few regions, which I can't be asked to do.

Although, the pale has the advantage that Belfast and UK are close for good deals.

Cargiant is popular, this is their own video

Just doing a quick look at prices in the north and adding VRT it would appear many Dublin dealers are similar enough when you consider the hassle of going north and not knowing who your dealing with .
Is it a case that dealers have to fairly competitive or else buyers would go north ?
Buying a 2014-15 golf 1.6 is the plan , not into turbo or anything just standatdish model

A 1.6 TDi Golf would have a turbo just like most diesel cars for the last 20 or 30 years.

Is there a better / more economical option model of golf for someone who’s not overly bothered about speed ?

The Honda Civic is a way nicer car. More economical too and a better spec than a golf.

Turbo does not automatically equate to increased fuel consumption. How many miles do you do annually and what type of driving is it?

20,000 miles a year , just feel the golf is a solid car in terms of ever having a tip plus would have been thinking VW would be a good outfit ( outside of emission tampering !)

That's a false perception to be honest and probably stems back to the 1980s or 1990s. Most cars these days have very good safety ratings just like the Golf.

    Whats your budget?

of the 20k miles. Is it mostly long distance drives? 100km per trip? or lots of small low distance trips?

My budget is 12-13K ...I would do one 300 mile motorway round trip commute each week and 100 miles local rural driving outside of that..

Golf is the best if you are looking for that size of car. Other option would be Audi A3 which is a nicer interior to the Golf but for your budget better with Golf

Loads of Golf around, personally I would look for a lower mileage diesel. I would not be afraid to drop down the years if you get lower mileage with a high spec

Don't buy a 141 instead of a 131 if the 141 is baseline.....remember your the one that has to sit in it, and you wont care when your arse is asleep that the plate has 141 on it.....

With that type of mileage, no matter which one you go for you are going to have high depreciation. So best to invest now and then drive it till it falls off the road. I would try and see can you get that extra bit of power as well with the 2ltr....

Prob an import so need to get checked for clocking

Thanks for all that info .
Would a 2 liter engine impact my insurance cost greatly ? And what is the benefit of a 2 litre as opposed to the standard 1.4 or 1.6 ?
The one in Kildare looks nice but should I be concerned if it’s 35 days on sale looking at the Ad ?
Sorry if my queries sound basic ..ðŸ‘

After a cursory look around the Louth area for a car for my mother, we ended up in Dublin as the selection was far greater, higher specified cars were easier to find and in general prices seemed better. Settled on a Titanium Kuga and she's delighted.

It is end of year, car will not be selling so most ad will be up a while

No idea on insurance, you need to ring yourself and see

2ltr is just more power, do they do a 1.4ltr in diesel? test the 1.6 and see if it works for you.
