On booking.com they give you nyc hotel prices minutes the taxes but below price they give you the “plus” taxes price..however when you click in on a room for example it says it doesn’t include taxes...very misleading and/or confusing...anyone know the real prices?

Put that thread title into a Google search and you'll get an instant answer, it's in a text box on the results screen.

OP came here for some personalised advise. The above is barely helpful. If you don't have good advice to give, you are free to ask the op for more details to help, or not post at all.

    Do you charge taxes?
The total tax on a New York City hotel room is 14.75% plus the flat fee of $3.50 USD per day. This is a mandatory tax collected by New York State and City.

    for 2017

Only the hotel in question! There are multiple taxes applied to your booking, some per bedroom, some "per unit" (e.g. a suite/whole AirBnB dwelling), and some per usable space (bedroom, sittingroom, etc). Then you have additional charges such as the Urban Destination Charge applied by hotels in central NYC that are "non-mandatory" ... but you have to pay them anyway, so mandatory as far as you're concerned. And then you have the exceptions ... Oh, and don't forget the tips.

During a recent trip to the states, including NYC, I got in the habit of mentally adding a "20% rip-off tax" to every advertised price, regardless of what it was for. That covered most of the many surcharges that appeared on my bills.

how is it misleading ? If you go into a store and bring the item to the till, the tax is added at checkout.

Try Hotels.com instead if it's so confusing.

A lot of NYC (particularly around Times Square) hotels are now starting to add a resort tax just like Las Vegas.

On my last visit there a few weeks ago, the resort tax was $35 per day which covered free wifi, all calls (international included), free newspapers and coffee in the lobby!!!!

And they are generally included on the hotel booking sites but mentioned in the t&C's.

Yes, but that doesn't include an Urban Destination Charge (aka Resort Charge) if applied by the hotel, nor "not mandatory but ..." tips (less relevant to budget hotels).

Tips are common in America. Not just in hotels. Restaurants, taxis, etc.

Incredibly enough $1.50 of the $3.50 is to fund the Javits Convention Center expansion.

I generally check booking.com for hotels, then go onto the hotel's own website to get the full price. It's obviously time consuming, but you know exactly what you'll be paying.
