Multi-Zone Heating Upgrade

I have a two storey home and currently the heating (oil-fired boiler) is controlled via on/off switch only, with timer function. We want the ability to control water/ heating of different rooms individually and would also like to do this via remote app so I believe we need to upgrade the heating controls into multi-zones?

Does anyone know what's involved with this in terms of disruption to the house i.e floors dug up/ having to replace tiles etc or is this retro fit tidy? Also, in a typical two storey/ 5 bed detached home would I be correct in saying we need 3 x zones: (1) upstairs, (2) downstairs & (3) water? Is that the general consensus there?

Also, more importantly, what's the approximate cost of such an upgrade? I realises that's a 'how long is a piece of string' question but ball park would be useful.

    Thanks.

There are radiator valves available that can be individually controlled through a central controller and app. It might work out as cheap as zone valves and give more control.

I use prv s. Programmable Radiator Valves and they give me very good control, also worth looking into.

I did a similar upgrade a month ago.

Replaced existing 2 motorized valves(ground + 1st floor) and added extra 2(attic and hot water) + 3 wireless thermostats(with receivers included) and moved the existing boiler timer to hotpres for controlling hot water only.
I've opted for salus thermostats (RT510RF no internet control) as they are cheaper but plenty of functions.

    All radiators already have TRVs.

Total for parts I think it was around 400euro

3x motorized valves around 45euro each(an old one was still working)
2 thermostats (had one already) - around 80 euro both
hot water cylinder thermostat 10 euro
    bypass valve -17 euro
    magnetic filter 110 euro

    Did the installation myself.

Depending on your current setup parts and labor might be up to 1000euro.

I had to redo some of the pipes(pipe soldering and compression fittings) in the hotpres and drain the heating system a few times.

For me it took around 1 week to do all this upgrades.(a full weekend and 2 hours of work during the week).

I'm not a plumber or electrician. Did it as a DIY job.
