Hello I about to purchase a humax hdr 1100s. I have only ever had sky before and have no knowledge of freesat.. Will I be able to just connect it to the wire the sky box was connected to?

Provided it wasn't Sky Q you should be OK. Be aware that Freesat boxes do not have the Irish channels and only some of the freely available UK satellite channels. Most notably missing on Freesat will be Channel 4 HD. If you want to combine Irish and UK free to air (FTA) satellite channels in one box consider something more like this. Here is a recent similar query to yours

C4HD can still be got on the humax but you won't be able to timeshift or record it. The SD version is fine for those functions.

I have the box for over a year. It is superb.

Channel 4 removed their HD channel and other content from Freesat's EPG in a dispute over costs. The signal is still freely available from the satellite to watch and record on any other box. There are also many other channels, +1s etc, freely available but not on FreeSat.

As has been said, once you didn't have Sky Q you can just swap out the boxes. You will need a postcode, I use Sw72ap, it's a London postcode, and that's it. You won't get the Saorview channels and some of the minor UK channels but on the plus side you get 7day epg, auto updates, apps, etc without having to tinker with the box, which to most is what is wanted.
