I'm working 32 hours a week on nights 11pm to 7am. I'm starting to question if my boss is getting away with paying me minimum wage for night shifts as I just seen that Lidl are putting up there minimum wage to 11.90 and I don't even get that for a nights. I'm just wondering here does anyone know is there a proper rate for night hours? Like I should be getting a little extra yeah? Is my boss doing me out of money?

legally the minimum wage is all they have to pay, though many places will have shift allowances for night workers in their contracts. lidl can't and aren raising the legal minimum wage, they are raising the wage for their workers.

of course, when a place pays min wage, they tend to be the type of place to shaft you on everything. the lower the pay the worse they treat you as well i find.

it's up to you to ask for more. and your boss will probably tell you go to apply to Lidl. All this talk of recovery but most workers aren't making squat and employers still acting like you should feel blessed to have a min wage job.

Pay rates and leave for night workers are not covered by the Organisation of Working Time Act. These depend on the terms of the night worker's contract of employment. Usually companies will pay a shift premium for night workers but that is at the discretion of the employer.

As the posts above , all the boss has to pay you is what's in your contract.
Night shift is usually paid well relative to day shift, because the job market dictates it: not many workers want or will do nightshifts .
In my place we get double for a nightshift.
    Other places it's less.
I would say that basic pay on a nightshift that has a day rate of min. wage of 9.50/hr would really want to be 12ish/hr just to get staff.
I don't know what your situation is though. You might be glad of a job and mightn't have many alternatives.
