    Howdy
Looking for some advise. Recently got Sky TV into my apartment. The engineer pulled the feed from the Virgin cables at their connection point and used a cable from there to my Sky Q box. No idea how seeing as I thought it was different technology.

Problem is I can't get landline broadband so I need Virgin. But it won't work independently or with Sky. There sending someone out to take a look but I have a feeling that Sky have disconnected or damaged something that results in Virgin not working.

    Any thoughts?

Looks like Sky reused your cabling by disconnecting them from the Virgin network and connecting them to a multiswitch.

How many cables have they connected to the SkyQ box? Only one is required in an apartment block dSCR multiswitch setup.

One cable. Comes from the wall, like an adapter on it to allow sky's cable to connect onto it and then go onto the sky box.

Is it possible for them to operate together or is Sky's only way of working is by using Virgins network?

What's the adapter on the cable, post a pic if possible?

The internal cabling belongs to the apartment block and looks like it's been swapped over from the Virgin distribution point in the block to the satellite distribution point, the 2 networks cannot share the same cable.

Satellite feed cables joined with an F-joiner between 2 F-connectors. Single cable feed to 12 tuners in the SkyQ receiver from a dSCR multiswitch located elsewhere in the apartment building. The dSCR multiswitch will be fed from a satellite dish.

As I posted above, it appears they have reused your apartment's single feed cable to supply you with a dSCR SkyQ feed, disconnecting you from the Virgin Media network.

Will it be possible to run a second cable to your apartment to restore your Virgin media broadband?

I think Sky should be the ones to bear that cost. Virgin are looking for 50E to come out and 60E for a new box.

I'll give them a buzz. Knew it was too good to be true!

If you only have one cable then it's one or the other. Depends on the feasibility of running another feed from your apartment to the distribution room. Luckily my apartment has 2 cables going to a room with Virgin and Sky SCR gear.
