    Have a young Angus bull-just gone 17mths..
say winter him-minus shed(as have none)so he be outdoors, what would you spend? now not pampering like.
I thought say from now until 1st April-be about €400
spoke to another man-they maintain at beef discussion group he was at-avg winter cost of a store be up to about €270ish... thought was bit low!!

Have him for sale at mo-I have a price in mind, few folk rang-offered less than I'm asking.. know can get the price I am asking now next Spring.. but to factor in winter costs and all.. could be better sell now!

    Opinions?

What will he eat, 10kg/day? 5months worth is 1500kg or call it 7 and half bales of silage, at 40e/bale or 20c/kgdm that's 300e in feed alone. 400e about right when you factor in other costs.

1500 kg of silage is at most 3 bales, possibly even 2.

If he’s only getting 2 bales for the winter I’d say sell him now, he’ll be some wreck in April after jist two bales of silage.

I wasn't suggesting 2 bales would be enough, just that a 1500kg of silage was a lot less than 7 bales. I only skimmed the post and it wasn't clear he was referring to DM rather than just kgs or silage.

Is he for breeding and registered? If not why do you need to keep him until April?

You'd want to be getting the offer plus 400 for feed plus 200 extra to make it worthwhile to keep him for the winter.
