    Hi folks,just wondering if anyone has any ideas about this issue.
    The parking handbrake warning light and engine light have come on in our avensis (latest model,152 reg) it has gone out again and then might come on again if you hit a bad bump on the road.
    Could this just be a sensor? have had to replace the handbrake in the last avensis we had (09 model) at a big expense.
    dont know much about cars now lads!!
    car is an english import,with 5 year warranty,as far as i know ireland has a 3 year warranty,would toyota honour the 5 year warranty if it comes to that?

    Thanks.

    DIY -> main forum

    I suggest start by contacting a local dealer to get info on the warranty situation.

    Toyota dealers in Ireland will only look after the 3 year warranty even if the Car is a UK import. happened me on my 2012 Avensis when the auto handbrake went just over the 3 years, wanted €900 to repair, brought it to a Toyota dealer in NI and was fixed for free under the 5yr warranty

    Check the warranty document, it's likely the 5 years is only issued by Toyota GB whereas 3 years is EU-wide.

    got sorted yesterday,it was a small problem with the turbo. for some reason when it happens it sets off the handbrake warning light! main dealer just had to plug it in and reset.

    Its nuts how finicky new cars have become. Are they all that much better for it all compared to models from 20 years ago that tended to be a lot more basic?... maybe but I don't think so. Good to hear you got it sorted and wasn't major problem.smile.png

    Ya just on the warranty issue.. we bought a vw in the past from northern Ireland.. brilliant car but bluetooth for phone wouldn't work and kept showing previous owners handset...long story short it needed a new main data box for phone etc which was over 1100k..I went to the local cork dealer. They confirmed what needed to be replaced and when I contacted the ni dealer they actually agreed for cork garage to fix and they would sort out the warranty.. car was out of warranty here in Ireland but still under uk warranty. It saved me a trip up north.. this would be worth a try with your Toyota

    i actually contacted the dealer that we bought the car from (in donegal) and he contacted a main toyota dealer in derry and they would have done it under the warranty if it was the handbrake issue. so worst case was a trip up to derry,but thankfully dont have to now.
