Coppied from Facebook. Has being all over the news as well yesterday.
WORK 6 MONTHS IN 2ND YEAR REGIONAL - GAIN 3RD YEAR IN AUSTRALIA.

Three year WHV announced and changes to seasonal workers visa conditions - Changes apply after July 1st 2019.

Changes to Working Holiday Maker visas

    • Work and Holiday makers (subclass 462) will be able to undertake regional plant and animal cultivation work in additional priority areas to become eligible for a second visa.

    • Extension of the period a WHM (subclass 417 and 462) may work with the same agricultural employer from six to 12 months.

    • Introduction of a third year visa option for WHM (subclasses 417 and 462), who from 1 July 2019 onwards complete six months of regional work in the second year.

    • Increase the number of places available for Work and Holiday Maker program (subclass 462) by
lifting annual caps available to a number of countries participating in the subclass 462 visa program.

These changes require a strict workforce test to be applied to ensure Australian workers are given the first opportunity for work.

The age limit is also being increased to 35 as well for more, if not all countries now.

Mixed reactions about it over here tbh as this is the governments answer to getting more workers on farms due to workforce shortages as the ozzys do not like doing this type of work (and are quite open about it).

The raised eyebrows seem equally aimed at the Australians general work ethic and letting backpackers stay longer as well. However many Australians are quick to admit that the country would be lost without foreign backpackers so it will be interesting to see how this pans out next year.

The new PM had suggested cutting social welfare payments to those (Australians) who did not take up this type of work but has backed down on that now due to it being political suicide of some sort.

In my opinion while great for those who would like to do a third year, six months of your second year is a long time to give up especially doing work that is not easy after already doing 3 months on your first year.

I reckon its good especially for those 30-34 who have missed out, if the locals don’t want to do it then open it up to the backpackers. They are also upping the Pacific Islanders visa from 6 months to 9 months too.

You can do 3 months of specified work on you first WHV to get the 2nd year, but the 6 months on the 2nd for the 3rd has to be plant and Animal work rather than specified work.
