Boiler Pressure Problem?

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone might be able to help me out? Everytime I put my boiler on to either heat just the water or the water and the rads, the pressure starts off at one bar but quickly rises to 3 bar and sometimes creeps just over. The only way to lower the pressure seems to be by draining water from the radiators? I don't know much about boilers but I get the feeling that the pressure shouldn't get that high so fast? Anybody got any ideas how to lower the pressure?

You will either need to repressurise or replace the expansion vessel, depending on its condition. You might also need to replace the safety valve. None of it really a diy job.

Thanks for the response! Sounds like it might be a big enough job? Any idea what the cost of something like this might cost to fix?

It would depend on what the problem was. If the vessel only needs repressurizing, it would only take about half an hour. But if it has been going on for a while, the system might need inhibitor added. If its really bad it would need to be flushed before adding the inhibitor.

You wont really know until you have a plumber or perhaps you boiler serviceman look at it.

Also,If you are not topping up the system to 1 bar when system is cold, you may have an automatic fill valve in operation. After expansion vessel etc is addressed. the fill valve should be turned off.
