Internet Auction 1970's Watch Keeps Stopping

    Hi all,

I bought a 17 Jewel German Ankra watch on an internet auction. (Catawiki).

I received it by post today. All looked well. It keeps stopping. If I adjust it to the right time it runs for a minute or so and stops.

Is this indicative of a common malfunction with an older watch? Perhaps that hasn't been used for a while and will remedy itself (wishful thinking).

    Or have I been mugged?

Edit: If the watch is on the wrist, it will restart with a flick of the wrist or a slight jolt, but stops soon enough after.

    Have you wound the watch?

  • Yes, I gave it 5 short part turns this morning when I opened the packaging. It wasn't moving at that point, so I thought it needed winding.

The tension on the winder was very loose.
