Returning car to UK - VRT refund?

    I have a 2003 A6 which was imported from the UK around 2010 ( not by me ).
    My daughter is now living in the UK and I intend to give her the car.
    I have been told that I should be able to claim back some of the VRT paid when it was brought in to Ireland originally.
    Can anyone on here confirm if this is true and if it is how do I go about it ?
