Age of car battery from its stamp

    Hi all,

    I was trying to check the age of my battery as the car did not start at the first attempt this morning. 08 Ford CMax. It worked on the second attempt.

    There is a sticker on the top of the battery that reads:

    BL00871606

    075 SAE570 60AH

    Can anyone advise if either of these is telling me the date? I assume it's the date of installation and not the expiration date.

    I'm going to put the multimeter on the battery this evening. I can't remember ever getting the battery changed on this car. My other fear is the alternator.

    There's loads of different date code formats depending on the manufacturer of the battery. If you Google "<name of manufacturer> battery date codes" you should find something. Be aware that often the date codes aren't on stickers though but 'burnt' in to the battery casing.
