Dartboard question

    Hi,

I have a dartboard put up in the house, and I want put a square of 1 inch thick foam around it (with the circle of the dartboard cut out) to protect the door, but where do I even get this foam? Do DIY shops sell it?

Sorry if this is a silly question: I have never had to buy foam like this!

Why foam and not a piece of chipboard or plywood?

I'm in a rental, and don't really have the tools for much DIY. Also I want to be able to take the dartboard down easily after use: it's in my kitchen!

My concern with using foam, rather than a material that the dart will stick into, is the dart will simply bounce off the foam and chip the floor instead. A cork board or similar would be a much better option IMO.

Sports direct and Argos both sell dart board surrounds. I have one and it fits nicely around the board!

Yeah, but those dartboard surrounds assume a reasonable amount of accuracy.

How about PIR or XPS insulation? That probably has the right amount of density to hold the dart whilst being light enough to not require wall anchors.

Darts do not bounce off foam, they stick in it. Hence why there is a large amount of circular foam surrounds for dartboards.

the OP should just pick one of them up, they are common

Yeah, that's the problem: I'm not that accurate! :pac: I don't want to spend €40+ on a surround. I need a square sheet of foam 74cm x 74cm x 3cm. That would do the job perfect.

How about this sort of thing?

that's closer to the mark, but even then I don't want to spend so much on it. Maybe I'll just wreck the door in the house with dart holes, and tell the landlord take it out of my deposit :pac:

Maybe try and find a building site near you and ask if they have any offcuts or rummage through their rubbish skip :)

I know, I know, but the board cost 30 quid, including darts. I can't justify spending 30 on a piece of foam! :pac:

    I ended up getting this

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dart-surround-all-brands-professional/dp/B073V56VJ4/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1544631683&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=darts+surround&psc=1

It's great! I'm a bit wild with the shots sometimes, so I need a bit more coverage from a surround: this one suits me to a tee :pac:
