One in roscommon, its referred to as the kepak producer group, don't know if it has members from other counties but I would think so. There is an agri consultant in roscommon that links up purchasing /producer groups from around the entire country for a small fee, for example, if 25 farmers from different groups were buying new massey tractors, they would buy as one group, the same for dealing with factorys.

I know a vendeen sheep breeder in Kildorrery that goes through a group or at least did ten years ago.
Google the vendeen website I'm sure the name and address is on the breeders list

How do producer groups exactly work?

I understand the farmers gets X cent extra, for certain grades of lambs. Is this calculated above the base price that gets printed in the journal every week?
In what range would this normally be?

But does the group have to commit up front to providing Y thousand lambs during that year?
Do all members of the group have to commit to only selling lamb through the group?
Who organises the collection and lorries and all the logistics? And where as well, I assume its individual farmers yards, big enough to handle a good group of lambs.

It's like any group, their deals are like the third secret of fatima.
A neighbour that's in a buyers group says you have to ''pay up, put up and shut up.
There's a coordinator that puts it all together, we're lucky with our haulier in that he helps to arrange the transport, Parts of the year we'd need three artics.
Farmers provide yards for depots. It's a lot of work, our coordinators time isn't his own from tuesday evening to thursday evening every week.
To do the deal the factories need to know how many lambs are available and what months they're available

I like every part of the group, you’ve mentioned over the last year or so wrangler and genuinely wouldn’t mind being part of one. The only thing I don’t really like, is if there’s a lamb out of spec, or grades poorly, the factory seems to hammer you excessively. Other then that, would be nice to consistently get 10-15c cent more, then what the small lad can get by themselves.

It's no bonanza and when I had 500 ewes I'd probably do as well if I wasn't in it. but now with small numbers it really shines
Yes we get screwed for out of spec but the fact that our farmers send most of the lambs in spec helps us when we sit around the table to do a deal and that's down to the pay scale.
As I said parttime farmers find it very good as everything is arranged for them.
We did the organising this week and I don't know how the coordinator does it week in week out for 50 years, I'm knackered today anyway
This year is playing havoc with our prices, Base price depends on quotes in the journal, First, processors weren't quoting just for the hell of it now they're not quoting because of the protests so we're basing on ICMs quotes which is a waste of time

Our group us different to wranglers we don't get the really high bonuses or the excessive cuts, just an extra 10-20c with maybe a. 5kg more

I would rather a flat rate myself as we've to weigh very often, we achieved 93% in spec last year, but even with the 500 we'd never be under 85% in spec

as far as commitment to the group, in our group every year you commit to supplying x lambs over the next season, it doesn't have to be all your lambs just as much as you're willing to supply
