Opinions/Experience with Opel Insignias

Does anyone have any experience with Opel Insignia's? Specifically 2.0 Diesels from 2010 - 2014?

My wife is currently looking for a new car and the price is very attractive but they just seem a little too cheap e.g. a 131 for less than €7k

She is looking for a saloon car with a hatchback type boot e.g. a Mondeo (which we are looking at too) so any alternative suggestions are welcome

I had a 131 from new, did maybe 200k in 3 years. Only thing that went wrong with it was the radio / sat-nav unit. Needed some part replaced that was not a stock item.
Otherwise never a problem, great car for going up and down motorways.

They are cheap for a reason, I know of five in my area that have blown the engine including my own daughters, oil pumps, turbos and DMF are other common problems as well. buy one at your peril especially 2010 to 2014.

Probably the worst car on the road today, almost worthless. late 131 onwards are better cars though

Have a 141 with 200,000 km and it is faultless. Excellent car.

Yours is more the exception. They are generally poor and cheap secondhand for this reason.

They have a habit of spontaneously combusting. :D The ones up to the late 2013 facelift have a terrible reputation for being unreliable - engines seizing, gearbox bearings failing, etc. They are cheap for good reason, if you still want one then get one of the facelifted ones from 2014 onwards.

Personally I'd go with a Mondeo instead, they are not that more expensive to buy than a similar Insignia these days but are a superior car in nearly every way imo.
