People getting sick of been told what they can and can't do at every turn. Few people I know dropped out including myself as it's of no benefit to me.

We never went qa, no better prices so why bother.

Farming is a business, if it doesn’t add to the bottom line it’s effort wasted.

What a totally useless app !!

    I downloaded there.

It says sold prices will be available when you register. I registered and they have my personal details now, sold prices are “only at mart”

You could have a walk around mine mart before the sale and check cattle’s age and movements before sale. But I couldn’t be arsed as it’s the in the ring anyway. Pointless enough.

It is one of the easier certifications to obtain.

I wouldn't buy cattle that weren't QA, as it basically means the seller is unable/unwilling to keep updated medical records.

The 70 days will be changed to lifetime shortly.

I see your point, just don’t confuse paperwork with good farming, I could create a paper trail to say anything, good healthy animals speak for themselves.

    A good farmer is organised.

That's extremely generalised. I see no point in the farm here being QA, we rarely slaughter or sell stores, weanlings would be our usual trade. Is QA going to get me more money in the mart, not likely. Are they going to be in the new buyers herd long enough to become QA, for fecking sure.
All cattle medical records are kept up to date in case of any sort of inspection. Just because we're not QA doesn't mean we're careless or disorganised.

The notion that only QA farms keep proper records is laughable, shows that in every walk of life they’re are those who love to generalise people.

QA is value added for some but not all.

You are losing money at the Mart.

Forgive me if I don't believe the random stranger on the internet.
If you make assumptions about non QA farmers, it's to be expected you make assumptions about buyers & prices at marts too :)

Neighbour kills 2500 cattle a year and says not. Only the number of movements matter to him.

I am qa despite selling all weanlings for the sake of the 6 to 8 cull cows per year I kill.

It all depends on the inspector. I'm board bia approved since it started and now I have to be, because I'm in dairy. But after about four different inspectors I have never seen the likes of the last Bastard. He came in to the yard to fail me from the start. The head people in board bia must have no respect for a farmer to leave the likes of him in to people's yards and home. If I didn't need the cert I'd have thrown him out of the yard. But unfortunately with no unions to protect farmers we have to take what ever **** is thrown at us .... I feel better now

Cant really follow the Martbids app, maybe if you were in the Mart looking at the cattle in the pen then you could access some information on them and help you make up your mind. I find the website https://www.livestock-live.com/MartMemberAccess/Market/Sales very good, its for Carnaross Mart but it give you an good indication of the prices cattle are currently making. The pictures are poor as they are stills from CCTV camera but I would expect it to improve over time.
Regarding the QA cattle it depends on the size of cattle you are selling. If you are selling animals likely to be killed within 70 days then yes been QA is very important but other wise the quality of the animal been sold is more important that the QA status. The one thing that does effect price is the number of movements on an animal, but again this is dependent on the animal qualifying for the QA bonus - for a P grading Fr then it doesn't matter as it will never qualify. But for good quality animals likely to be killed at under 30 months then any more than 3 previous owners will effect price by around €50.

Believe who and what you like.

Now you are aware some buyers will look at your non qa approved stock differently to those who are certified.

Ignore as you wish. Shortly QA will be from birth so this is really a mute point.
