Combining Private & Public?

    Hi all,
I hope I am on the correct thread here. I have a query on combining treatment with public/private cover. Health insurance is stating that a condition that was only recently diagnosed is pre-existing and won't cover costs. Is it possible to be treated as a private patient and pay for associated surgical costs but then for the recovery phase which will likely be one week be put on a public ward so will not be charged per night as it is this fee that is crippling - this is in a public hospital and hospital would still be getting significant amount for the surgery. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks

I can't give you a definitive answer which I know is what you want, so sorry. I will say, generally you get a quote for your surgery, which includes the price of hospital admission in the ward. What you're asking for seems highly unlikely, I don't think they'd let private paying customers abuse use of the public ward like that.
    Good luck with your surgery.
