    Hi folks,

I was just going through the license categories on the NDLS website after passing my test and noticed the following note as part of the description for the C1E category:

"Combination of drawing vehicles in category B with trailer where the MAM1 of the trailer is greater than 3,500 kg and where the MAM1 of the drawing vehicle and trailer combined does not exceed 12,000 kg".

I can't think of a combination of car/jeep and trailer that could come near 12 tonnes. Of course the category B vehicle itself would have to be less than 3500 kg so it would have to be able for an 8500 kg trailer. Can anyone think of any scenarios? Whats the jeep with the biggest towing capacity?

    This is just pure curiosity.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

As Tigerpants has said, it's more aimed at the light truck area - e.g. a 7.5 tonner pulling a trailer.

That said, while C1 tests are probably done from time to time, C1E tests would be very rare as most get it by default after passing the CE test.

(A C1 licence is also required for some imported vehicles which may be driven on a car licence in their own country but not here - some of those massive American SUV's and pickups exceed 3.5 tonnes).
