NCT 2014 car before VRT it?

    Hi
Bought a 2014 car in Northern Ireland last week and have it booked in for VRT on the 15th. One of the requirements is an emissions record. I don’t have this.

Do I need to NCT the car before I VRT it or is that possible?

    TIA

The v5 form will have the emissions figures on it. You can't NCT a non Irish registered car.

If it has an MOT which it should as it's due at 3 years old you can actually transfer the MOT to an NCT without any testing.
    1. Recognition of unexpired term of Roadworthiness Certificates issued by other Member States

If you import a second hand vehicle from another EU Member State and the vehicle has a current EU Roadworthiness Certificate, you can have the unexpired portion of the certificate recognised by exchanging your out-of-state roadworthiness certificate for an Irish issued EU recognition certificate.

In order to obtain an EU recognition certificate for a private vehicle you must complete an application form and return the completed application form and required fee of €15.50 (this fee is being waived until further notice) with the original or a certified true copy of the out of state roadworthiness certificate (if the certificate is not in English, please ensure you provide a translation of the certificate in the English language) to the following postal address: Certificate Administrator, Applus Car Testing Service Ltd, Citywest Business Campus, Lakedrive 3026, Naas Road, Dublin 24, D24 RC8V.

The Irish issued EU recognition roadworthiness certificate will be issued by post to the current registered owner of the vehicle.

Emissions record is usually the co2 figure from the V5 logbook

Perfect thanks guys. So once it’s VRT’d I can then book the NCT after. Can I tax once it’s VRt’d?

Yes, you can book nct after its vrted (needs few days to show up on the system ).
And yes you can tax it once it's vrted.

Does the car have valid MOT from the north ?

I hope it is not a Northern Ireland MOT if it is diesel.

MOT diesel test not performed in NI for 12 years

I bought the car from a NI dealership but they bought the car from England. Hopefully it’s ok

I bought the car from a dealership in NI but they bought it from England. I am nearly sure there is a valid MOT on it, I just check the paperwork when I get home.

    Thanks

English mot should be ok. The problem was only with Northern Ireland mots.

But NI MOT would still be accepted to be exchanged for nct, so it makes no difference for op.

...only if it's been issued since 20/05/18.

I seem to be have been given the wrong information - this was back in July - and I've since obtained a recognition certificate for a car with a valid MOT from before that date.
