If its just the battery, just a few quid. On the other hand if its the actual fob be prepared to hit the savings. Main dealer reconfiguration etc etc

New merc key wont break the bank believe it or not. €150 plus vat if its just the fob and no blade required. No reconfiguration needed either, the key is ordered for the vehicle and comes in ready to go

OP go into any motor factors and they will replace it for ya. The batterys are about €3

We got a "key battery low" message this morning, so I assume the fob is all in order, just need a new battery.

Ah brilliant, that's very reasonable and it would suit me to go to the main dealers as it's very close to work :)

Thanks everyone for the responses, it's greatly appreciated :)

Yea but if you damage the key it's nearly €300 to replace it.

Yeah “if” you’re a ham-fisted bufoon trying to change it with a hammer.

Also new keys can be gotten for half that price.

You could also slip and injure yourself whilst trying to change a battery

    Any more worst case scenarios?

Replacing the battery with a cheap one can lead to problems and a short battery life. Buy a decent one.

    Define a "cheap one" ?

you can get a generic "boots" branded cr2025 in Boots for €4

or you can get a MAXELL Lithium cr2025 in PowerCity for €1

I know which one I would choose.... and it wouldn't be the "expensive" one.

I'm speaking from my own experience with Mercedes cars, of which I have 5. I buy Varta which are oem and last a year or so. Other brands seem to last no time. I have keyless doors and engine start. Where can I buy a key coded to my car for half price? I'd love to know

I went to the main dealer and it was 13 euro. Battery came in a two pack, so I was given a quick demo on how to change it, should the other battery go :)

I find it weird that the original batteries which came with the car seem to last for years but the replacements seem to last no time. Even when buying Energizer, Duracell etc.

I just buy a supply off Viking Direct every couple of years when ordering something else. The BMW keys use a slightly rarer size which is a fiver a pop in Halfords. Always good to have a spare!
