SEAI home charger grant - Kona EV not listed as eligible car?

    Hi,

I tried to fill out the online form this evening to start the application process to get the SEAI Home Charger Grant.

All went fine until I got to the drop down window where you select from pre-polulated list of car models from your chosen manufacturer.

There was no Kona EV listed for Hyundai & no option for me to manually enter it anywhere.

I plan to obviously ring the Dublin Office in the morning & follow up & explain my situation (buying a new Kona EV etc & its not on their list of eligible cars).

Just wondering did anyone else ever have a similar issue with your car model (it not being listed as eligible on their drop down list on the form online when you were trying to apply) & how you got around it.

I'm presuming its not a big problem - just that they are slow to update the online drop down lists & hoping that I can still apply & receive this grant for the Kona EV.

Thanks in advance for any info / feedback...

(Maybe I just can't fill out the online application & have to do it manually & send it snail mail or email ?)

    I'd just pick any car!
Pick the Hyundai Ioniq, you can always claim an honest mistake :)

Is the Kona available to drive away yet?

    I'm not sure.

I've been told I should be able to drive mine way approx Dec 27th onwards. That was a rough approx date & could change into January which wouldn't be a problem from my perspective.

I think see where you're coming from - maybe its too soon for me to apply for this model ? I was trying to ensure I had (as much as possible) everything setup ahead of it arriving where possible.

    Thanks for getting back..

Cheers - I'll let you know what they say tomorrow after I talk with them... I plan to call them in the morning to discuss..

Appreciate your feedback & advice (maybe they'll tell me to just go do that :D )

Surely you don't want it on 182 plates?

No definitely not  (unless I got it tomorrow & had the use of it for a few months etc..) :D

Dealer told me I'd be getting 191 plates (I wasn't sure if that would mean I'd get it before January - maybe he's not being accurate with the dates he told me I'd get it - I certainly don't mind hanging on etc..)

Then it won’t be ready on Dec 27th.

Thanks for clarifying. This would be my first ever new car so I wasn't really presuming I'd be able to get it before Jan (Just naievly hoping). I was delighted when I was told I may be able to take it between end Dec and start of Jan etc..I now know this won't be happening based on your feedback etc..

I can wait until first week in Jan. Who knows what'll happen. It may end up being delayed until Jan or Feb if the shipping schedule doesn't go to plan. Hopefully that won't happen 😯

Thanks kceire. Genuinely wasn't sure how it would all work with regards to the timing of being able to access the car. Never bought a new car before etc...I was happy & surprised when told I may be able to get it at end Dec. Just took that at face value as I knew no better. I know better now though 😉

You can check with the dealer. They should know if your car is already on a ship or not. Ship takes about 4-5 weeks to get here!

Thanks. I was told it was on its way at present. Apparently he'll get updates on an ETA approx every Friday. Initially was told ETA of early or mid December. I definately want 191 plates and dealer agreed to do that. So I now know based on all the feedback here, that it'll be first week in Jan at earliest before I'll be able to drive it off the forecourt with 191 plates. Cheers..for your feedback and advice.

Just to feed your OCD, its possible to track the ship its on.

The Kona ships out of Ulsan in Korea (AFAIK) and you can track the various ships via their car carrier company...
    https://www.eukor.com/ek/homepage/01_ShippingService/portSchedule.do#none

Enter korea origin and uk destination and look for the Ulsan departures. Based on departure and arrival dates you might be able to figure out which ship its on.... or maybe the dealer can tell you since they already know its on its way they must know the ship name.... ask them.

Once you figure out the ship name you can then directly track its progress...

Haha, yeah I did that! Ordered Ioniq 19/01/2017 for estimated delivery 20/02/2017 but didn't get the car until 07/04/2017!

Wow - that's incredible. Never thought that type of info would be so accessible. Appreciate you taking the time to put all that together and for sharing.

If I don't have OCD yet, I soon will have with all the great info I'm getting here....!!

    Cheers

Pick the Hyundai Ioniq, you can always claim an honest mistake :)

I called the SEAI EV Grant Team this morning & what a lovely & refreshing conversation it was.

They were totally 'on the ball', & their IT team had the Kona EV ready to add to their list of eligible EVs. They were very fair & open & explained it was just because the Kona EV was only introduced in Ireland within the last few weeks that it takes a short time to have it all setup on the system.

They even said not to worry that if for some reason by end of next week, the Kona EV still wasn't listed there, I could just select the Ioniq from their list & they made a note on my application that I really had the Kona EV but may have to select the Ioniq if the Kona EV wasn't available to me when I was filling out the form.

So all good from my perspective & I'm not in any specific rush, but tempting fate & knowing how there can be delays along the way, I'd like to get the charger installed sooner rather than later once I get the paperwork processed.
