German report. Translator required for those who don't speak German.

Wizz Air and Ryanair reduced the carry-on size and this change was to come in to force from 1st November.
A 737-800 can hold about 4 to 5 wheelie cases per overhead locker. There simply isn't enough space from them all. the 737 max overhead space bins(if fitted) will allow 6.

An Airbus 32X has the exact same problem.

The Italian authority disregards actual space limitations.
Good luck fitting any wheelie cases at all in a Bombardier CRJ because they just don't fit.

So perhaps for flights in Italy, Ryanair and Wizz will just offer a free 10kg bag to be checked in which would satisfy the authorities as its allowing the passengers a free piece of luggage

Also, just to clarify the new 737 pivot bins DO NOT hold 6 bags or anything close to it. The sky interior 737s actually hold LESS than the old 737s due to move dividers between the bins.
The only bins which would hold 5 bags 6 at a push if the bags are skinny are the “space bins” on the 787 outboard lockers.
These are NOT the same size as the ones installed on the 737 sky interior at all.

Spacebin available for 737; See the link which I provided. I did not claim that operators will use them.

Aw ok well Ryanair or Norwegian have certainly not been using them on their new 737s to date

Ryanair definitely don’t have space bins and the current pivot bins they use on the new aircraft hold less bags than the original -800NG model. The designers of the bins are using only one specific bag size/dimension which is never going to happen, you will always have different variations of bags on board.

If Ryanair insisted on the standard IATA size 55*35*20 it might fit more in as thats what the bins are designed for

5cm skinnier won't fix their problems.

There is space under each seat bar the front rows for a suitably sized case.

On RYR it seems to me that the dreaded Middle Seat has vastly more under seat storage than window or aisle. I am a middle seat person myself. Potentially two people to assist if anything goes wrong with me lol.

    https://www.ryanair.com/gb/en/useful-info/help-centre/faq-overview/inflight/how-big-are-ryanairs-seats

seat width is only 43cm between armrests. that doesn't leave much space for a 35cm wide wheelie case.
