Private work as chartered tax advisor

I’m at the very early stage of considering changing careers to undergo the CTA qualification from IATI. I’m just wondering if there would be much private work for someone who just specialises in tax or if I’d need an accounting qualification and experience in a large company? I’d ideally like to work for myself so I could be flexible with my schedule but I don’t know if this would be a viable career option financially. I do have other income so wouldn’t be relying on the income from the work, however I would like it to be profitable after a year or two. Any opinions appreciated, thanks

There are plenty of pure tax advisors around who don't do accountancy. Smaller accountants and solicitors may not have tax expertise in certain area's and will refer to tax advisors.

I think having relationships with accountants and solicitors would be the easiest way to build up a tax conslting business.
