Drinking water testing

How do I go about getting the quality of my drinking water tested by Irish Water and is there a cost involved?

    Hi ShaunK,

Irish Water do not do private testing of drinking water quality. Irish Water are responsible for the public supply network and we publish our results of our testing on Water Supply Zones on our website. You can search for results for your area here.

If you would like to get your water tested privately, you can find a list of accredited testing facilities at the following link: www.inab.ie/Directory-of-Accredited-Bodies/Laboratory-Accreditation/Testing.

    Thanks,
    Niamh

Hmm, thankyou for your reply Niamh, I am now confused... you see I firstly contacted the EPA and the EHO and they clearly (in writing) directed me toward Irish Water saying that it is they who are responsible for the quality of my drinking water supply.

You don't have my area in your Water Supply Zones hence my request.

I am thinking that nobody wants to take this on... where do I go to escalate this to somebody who does care... I'm sure if I was living in Africa or another third world country pop stars and celebs would be queuing up to put their name to my clean drinking water campaign...

Why? What’s wrong with your water? The pop stars will only que up when you have the tests proving it’s bad for your health. Have you had it tested?

    Very good :)

I'd love to have it tested... it's the colour of weak tea and two of my neighbours children ended up in hospital with e-coli and cryptosporidium from brushing their teeth (nobody dares to actually drink the stuff). Your whitey whites last for three or four washes before they're a lovely shade of grey, a bath is a luxury that just doesn't appeal when you feel dirtier when you get out of the water than when you got in.

But alas, unless Bono or Sir Bob jump on the bandwagon the West of Ireland is of no interest to Irish Water, the County Council, the EPA, etc

I was under the impression that in the 21st Century is was a basic human right to have clean drinking water in the one of the wealthiest countries (per capita) in the world...5th???

    Morning Niamh,

Unfortunately your prompt reaction to my post hasn't been echoed by your team, I would reasonably expect to have been contacted within 10 days of you saying "as soon as possible", alas not a peep from Irish Water.

    Disappointing
