Species tulips

I'm looking for 'species' Tulips, the plain old red ones. Up to now I've used cultivars which just get worse every year, requiring replacing.

Apparently the species ones if planted deeply will bloom consistently, a perennial tulip.

Does anyone have any experience with these, what types I should be looking for and where might I get them?
