Probation period

I started a new job 5 months and 23 days ago and I have a 6 months probation period. I was supposed to have several meetings talking about my performance, areas of improvement and so on but I only had one meeting, no documents were signed and I was informed that I am meeting/exceeding the expectations and that I should have no bother passing my probation.

Should I consider that I am permanent after the 6 months without signing any document?

Ask your boss or HR. Never assume anything.

Unless it's in writing it doesn't exist.

    Remember that throughout your career!

Nonsense. You can have a contract without seeing anything in writing, for example.

I passed probation in lots of jobs and never had anything in writing until I joined the civil service.

Good luck using that argument with your boss.

In the real working world, if it's not written down, they can deny it, and there's nothing you can do.

I'm sure you already knew this.

You are by law entitled to a written contract within two months of starting your employment which states your notice period (for probation and permanent status).

I never got anything written to say that I had passed my probation period in my job. My boss literally turned to me one day during a conversation and said "and of course you've passed your probation period". That was it.

While OMM 0000 is right that you're entitled to a contract within 2 months of starting but they don't have to give you an updated one to say that your probation period is passed.

More nonsense. I hope you are nobodies boss.

You either have no experience working in a large company or are just trying to make trouble.

No, I'm right and you know it. If you seriously think that anything not written down doesn't exist, I doubt you have a job at all. Have you never heard of implied contracts, implied terms? Do some research.

You keep making this personal, so maybe I can nip this in the bud right now.

Looking at your post history, you're in your mid-40s, and you're still trying to get entry-level jobs.

I'm a CTO who has set up offices/teams in 4 countries, I have worked for multiple huge employers in various management roles, as well as in multiple medium and small businesses.

When I say "if it's not written down, it doesn't exist", I'm not explaining my management style. I'm advising people to cover their ass by getting things in writing. If you had any real work experience you would know this is 100% good advice, and is something almost everyone learns to do if they've worked for a few years.

I have no interest in giving people advice on how I wish the world operated. Instead I give advice based on reality and my 20+ years of experience.

    Yes.

Unless they can produce paperwork saying that ypur probation wad extended, then its has ended successfully.

Now you are still there less than a year so can be fired without recourse to the unjustified dismissals act ....
