Hi all, the wife decided to use what I can only assume was a bone saw to scrape the ice off the windscreen of my car yesterday morning. Nice piece of work to be honest... I think she has a hidden talent.

Anyway, its too big a job and too cold outside for me to try and attempt this myself. Has anyone ever used GlassPolish.ie - I cant find any reviews on line. They are based in Hollystown D15.

And before anyone suggests it, I'm not the type of person to drop a hammer through the windscreen and claim a brand new one off insurance. Thats just not me...

Pic of damage attached. Vertical up the left side, horizontal across the bottom, like she was drawing a rectangle and stopped half way through.... jaysis I'm sick :(

Hard to tell how deep the scratches are but it might not be repairable. they are directly in the drivers vision.

I can just about feel My fingernail barely catching on them... quite shallow. I'm going to give that crowd a call and see what the story is. I can drive it fine and somehow I can manage not see them because I am sort of looking through / beyond them. More like a dirty windscreen as such.

    Thx

Will possibly fail NCT so you have until then to get it fixed.

Thx, I'll be fixing it anyway, one way or the other. The only saving grace there would be "Light scratching which does not obscure the driver’s view should be ignored". I have a year to get it sorted.

If you can find a detailer that uses cerium oxide (such as CarPro CeriGlass) and rayon pads on a polishing machine they would be able to bring it back to new. The only issue is that this process removes the normal function of the glass when it comes to rain so you would need something like Gtechniq G1 applied to it afterwards.

The only detailer I know of in Dublin at the moment is Kingpin so he (Brian Higgins) might be worth a call - 087 973 7305. His website isn't in operation at the moment unfortunately.

You don't have to have a broken windscreen to make a claim. I got a chip, in the drivers eye location, fixed by calling my insurance.

I’ve tried and miserably failed to remove scratches from windscreens in the past. It’s very difficult, if not impossible, in my experience.

I think though that you’d have a case there for a replacement, without resorting to dropping a brick though it.
