Using flexible tile adhesive to stick solid timber floor

I have x3 internal concrete steps to tile. They are approximately 2,5 meters wide by 0,5 meter deep.
On the beginning of each step I'll be using a 20 mm soild oak timber floor and the rest of the area will be porcelain tile.
Has anyone ever stuck down a small bit of timber flooring with tile adhesive, as I don't want to spend €100+ for a tub of timber glue when I 'm only using a few lengths.
    Thanks

In the end I used Stixall ( silicone type product) its actually made by Sika, x3 tubes cost about 23e, glued down the boards at the edge of each step and weighed them down with blocks overnight. Solid as a rock, finished the tiling the next day so very happy overall.
    Thanks for the advice.
