Do you check prices online when in a store?

    Hi everyone.

I was in Debenhams yesterday looking for a couple of coats for winter.

Walked around the Levi's section to price one of their Denim Sherpa jackets,165 euro normally or 132 euro with their 20% promotion.

Checked Arnotts as I knew they also had a promotion on, and the price was 108 euro in promotion.

Decided to check Amazon. Same Jacket was priced at 75 euro.

I was standing in Debenhams and bought the Jacket off Amazon and left.

So, I assume I'm not alone in pricing jackets in-store and online while there?

I do this for most things.
However, online isn't always cheaper as you may think despite the example above.

    Oh absolutely,

And taking into consideration shipping times, if what you save is only a few euros, I'll go for the practicality of bringing the item home that day.

But if I don't mind waiting for whatever it is I'm buying, and there is free shipping. I'll generally go for the best price.

No. I rarely buy in shops and if I avail of the shop service then I buy there. But mostly I just prefer to shop online and spend my free time doing something else.

What about trying something on for size?

I've lost weight recently and some L fit me and some M fit me now.

I send it back and get different size or I get item in two sizes and send one back. I know fairly well what size I am in brands I usually buy and what suits me.

All the time. But if the price difference is minimal and the sales assistant has been particularly helpful I buy in-store anyway.

You'd have to wonder what kind of future is in store for high street shops.
I buy most things online and only enter a shop if I'm looking for something last minute.

I've thought that myself; nearly every time I go into a brick and mortar store.

I think the novelty not a day out, or browsing through the rails still resonates with people.

And it doesn't stop at clothes, the same with books for me.

I saw an amazing bag in Arnotts and got it 45 euro cheaper from the UK. Brexit will probably end all that though.

Strangely enough, you ll find there's actually no such thing as free shipping or postage, it's actually included in the overall price, the word 'free' has been hijacked by marketeers, and works extremely effectively

Nah, you'll just end up buying it from France/Germany/Spain.

In most cases I want the item that day. If I'm in a patient mood and making a significant saving, I'll buy online.

If it was a jacket like the OP, I'd definitely buy in store. The saving is not worth it Vs Possible damage or marks from online, hassle of returns and most of all waiting..

I did not know that this was the case.

I always assumed that this bus what Amazon does, seeing how must items always go up a little in price ob the checkout screen.

This is my main reluctance from buying online, the hassle of returning if damaged/wrong size/doesn't suit.

I know so many people who buy Hundreds of Euros worth online, to try on and then return most of what they bought. Some liken it to trying on in-store.

Way to much hassle/expense for me. Also, I don't consider it the same as trying in-store, at least you're not spending money if it doesn't fit.
