Peugeot 3008 rear brake light

    Hi,

I got a notification in the onboard computer that the car's rear right brake light is faulty.

I checked and it's the same bulb that is used for rear light: It works when I turn the light on , but when I press the brake pedal, the left bulb increases in light intensity while the right one doesn't.

Is this normal? A faulty bulb should normally not turn on at all.

It also stopped working at the exact same time as the right reversing light.

Could it be a faulty fuse?

    Thanks

Check the connector, maybe it came loose. Would be surprised if it is a fuse if the other side still works.
You sure it is the same bulb as the rear light?

Yes i'm sure that it's the same bulb.

The left side rear lights work, and when pressing the brake pedal they just increase in intensity while the right bulbs don't.

Bulbs are P21/5W and can be used for both tail and brake lights

The P21/5w looks like a dual coil bulb, seems like the break light coil is gone.
    Replace the bulb.
When you are at it, replace the reversing light bulb as well. This is a P21W bulb.

I guess it's just a coincidence then that the brake light coil and the reversing bulb are both gone at the same time.

Tungsten style bulbs break. They don’t last forever and are cheap.
Maybe coincidence, maybe they didn’t break at the very same time, maybe they broke for the same reason. Unless it starts happening on a regular basis I wouldn’t worry.

I've just noticed that the third brake light bulbs (like these) also don't work.

Do you think that it could a reason to fail the NCT even if the main brake light (left and right) work properly?

In the NCT booklet, it says that reason (e) doesn't apply, does it means that the car would still fail the test if the upper brake lights do not work?

If any of the brake lights don’t work, you will fail the NCT. It is classified as a major defect. That includes the 3rd brake light.

Apart from NCT - why would you not fix it? Brake lights not properly working is a pain in the arse for whoever drives behind you, beside being really dangerous.

Drives me bananas if people don’t fix their lights.

The amount driving around with no brake lights is shocking and most of these are taxi.

If a bulb is gone replace.

I change mine around every 6 months, or if blown.

I recently replaced all the faulty bulbs, but today I noticed that one of the back bulbs (one which I didn't replace) didn't turn on, but it worked again when I tapped it . Does it mean that the bulb is faulty or could it be something else?

Bulb is on its way out. You just re linked the filament by hitting it.

Are all the lights with blowing bulbs on the tailgate?

No, however the one that stopped working and worked when I tapped it is on the tailgate.
