    Hey Lads,

sorry If Im digging up an old thread but thought its better to ask here then start a new one,

Has anyone actually gone ahead and leased or long-term rented a car?

If so can you give some feedback? was it worth it? did it work more cost effective then buying a car on finance or getting a loan - what kind of rates did you get etc? was the maintenance easier (i.e. covered by the rental/leasing company)? etc.

Would love to understand it better?

Moved out from a 2006 thread, the information in it was pretty stale...

I haven't ever leased, but I've heard of lads (in germany) who long term rented cars.

If you approach avis/hertz etc and ask for a 1 or 2 yr rental, apparently the rates are very good.

And you don't have to worry about insurance (well 3rd party anyway ) Or tyre use, servicing, breakdown cover etc etc.

If it's due tyres/servicing you just drop the car back and take a different one.

It's an option you might want to look into.

Years ago about 15 I was part-time living here, I'd rent for weeks or months at a time.
I think it was Budget in the airport who for a while were renting to at 3 euro per day for a mid sized car, this was since I was otherwise covered by 3rd party insurance and did not need theirs.
The normal day rate was about 20euro, and that a rate I've had lately from Eurocar on a two week rental.

www.dan-dooley.ie and enterprise.ie both do "long term rental"
www.joeduffyleasing.ie has leasing, check their prices

I have not done it myself, you need to crunch the numbers to see if it a good solution for you

Would your insurance premiums go up because your not getting your own policy every year, that sort of thing?

Thats a good point, but personally if I did do it I would be keeping my insurance policy on my girl friends/our main family car, (so lack of insurance wouldnt be an issue for me)

This rented car would just my work run-around,

    I did find this article: foranyone else who is looking into this idea;
