Yea but in fairness this is basic stuff for stores with the public coming in.

If ya spill crap and the floor is slippery then put some warning signs up. From what I read it seems someone did a sloppy clean up and ran off leaving the floor slippery.

It still doesn’t sound like a €70k injury but awards in general are out of control in Ireland.

I hate all the ridiculous compensation claims as much as most do, but this seems legitimate to me? The fall was not her fault, and she still has to wear a splint five years later. Maybe €75,000 is too much, but still ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Was it Glanbia cream she slipped on?

The claim seems legit. 75K seems too much though.

"Ms Curran he said is an honest woman who did not exaggerate her injuries . However the judge found the loss of the woman's job with Glanbia a year later was not related to her accident."

I don't believe she didn't exaggerate her injuries.

70k for a broken wrist - I could have been a millionaire if my football injuries happened nowadays!

I think the 400k claim was way over the top. She was awarded max of circuit court and I think that only circuit court costs can be claimed with the balance taken from the award.

Her net award maybe be less than 40k after deductions

Even better some mma fighter got 90k today despite videos of him fighting in the ring a year or 2 later.
Time to beg the imf to come back n sort out court payments, none of our politicians have any intention of doing so.

Some solicitor was on with PK at Newstalk this morning touting for business regarding the school closures due to dangerous buildings. Not because the kids or staff got hurt but possibly because 'the state will fail to provide education' or words to that effect.

    They're like leeches.

Likely a response to Leo's comments yesterday on the news. Kids to be accommodated (prefabs) and some sent to other schools. I'm curious about capacity in other schools.

Did we not bring in checks by surveyors at each stage of the build ? Surely they are culpable here if they didn't do their job. Those are council employees or council contractors.

It will come down to who is paying for this. And it will be Barristers not solicitors involved.

Claim seems reasonable in that Dunnes didn't clean up the mess properly, but I have no idea why she was suing her employers.

Disgusting payout. I'd gladly break a wrist and a leg for 75k. Crazy money. Actually I wonder could I find a shop assistant willing to spill milk and remove any signs that are put down in return for 10% of my payout. This claiming business seems like a gold mine for anyone able to see a good oppertunity

    And the old "joke"

A solicitor falls into shark infested waters but doesn't get eaten, why?

    Professional courtesy!!! :D

Horrible comment. The women broke her wrist through no fault of her own, she was 100% entitled to make a claim. Its not her fault the payout was extortionate.

Its the judges and/or fraud claims you and the OP should be having a go at.

Judge, solicitors, claimant. All deserve a fall under a bus.

How? What "beggars belief"? Seems like a very genuine case. You must explain what has "beggard your belief".

What "Beggars my belier" is that I shop in Dunnes most weeks. I have never fallen, slipped or tripped in all the years I've shopped there. Neither have I seen anyone else do so. I was in 4 supermarkets today, guess what I stayed upright,as did everyone else I observed.
I wonder would this woman have taken her case if she was still employed by Glambia.?;)
After all these years she still wears a splint !!! me hole, unless she's looking for disability..

There is no way she has to wear a splint years after breaking or fracturing her wrist, 6 weeks is normal to wear a cast, splint for a month after cast taken off, then plently of Physio.

75k seems like a large payout for this, again is it the Judge who awarded the max under his court.

Not sure why she sued her employer Glanbia, as it happened in Dunnes Stores in Cavan, no mention in article that she was let go from Glanbia after taking a case against them also.

Found out a little more info.

Judge specifically awarded 75k because this is the limit of the circuit Court.

She will get circuit Court costs (circa 15k-20k + vat), but is liable for both her own and defendants additional costs of the high Court. (circa 40k-60k +vat)

This probably will be deducted from the award and she will have very little change left.
