Broken suspension coil

Driving home tonight the drivers side front suspension coil on my wife's car broke. We only had the car in for a full service a month ago. Is this something that should have been picked up?

On the service company's website it says they check "steering, suspension
Ball joints, links, wishbones, bushes etc" and broken surface is well rusted so I'm assuming they should have seen it.

If it only broke now then how could they really have spotted it? springs break randomly all the time, even new ones!

No it's not something that can be spotted before it breaks and I'm not being smart with that comment. Metal fatigue can show up on xrays but nothing viable to the naked eye

A coil spring can go just like a bulb. There is no warning, happens randomly.

Thanks for the above. Had both front coil springs replaced...all good now.
