Eir Cap

Hi I'm leaving Vodafone, had nothing but trouble with them down thru the years, broadband down for the last 8 days, and they just send out modems, when its not the issue in my case.
I just spoke to an Eir salesperson who said I can get FTTH which I don't have with Vodafone, send them on a termination fee that I will get from Vodafone when cancelling a contract, anything up to €200 and they will cover it.
Then 3 times I asked about their 1tb cap, and was told, "We used to have a fair usage policy of 1tb but a few months ago we finished that so its truly Unlimited. Anyone else joined them lately and know about the cap. I read on some forums it is still there, but others says its gone. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

The cap or FUP of 1TB does not apply to new customers since July 25th 2018. You should have no cap if signing up now.

    Looks like it's still there
eir Fibre packages with an unlimited usage allowance are subject to a fair usage policy of 1TB per month.

The cap would be there for customers who signed up prior to July. Page 6, note 5 of their pricing document specifically states that the cap is gone for new customers.

When the FTTH comes to my area (very soon apparently) and I change from the crappy vdsl connection I have with Eir will I be treated as an existing customer and given a 1tb cap?

I think if you are out of contract you should get uncapped.

I was in contract, ordered on August, install earlier this month and I was told by the webchat that I have the cap. I usually dont trust the webchat though.

I'm unsure of the answer to that. You would need to clarify that with eir customer support.

No. But being an existing customer, you won't get the same discount as what they advertise on their website. It'll be 10 EUR more per month or thereabouts.

The discounted pricing on their website is only for customers coming from other providers.

I guess you should talk to Eirs loyalty team and explain you are moving to another provider when FTTH is available and you might get some kind of discount. And if no discount is possible then switch to another provider that may provide better value.

So when/if I renew at the end of my current contract, I'll still be capped?

If you just let your contract go on without changing anything: yes !

If you re-contract or change your package: no.

You can contact their CS now and request that the cap is removed. I believe it involves moving you to a new package for a day or two then back to your original package. They need to do this because their crappy software can't remove the cap any other way.

You don't renew it. You continue on the same contract only you can now cancel without penalty. So the the answer unfortunately is yes
