Lighting fire for first time in 16 year old house

    Hello,

We recently bought a 16 year old house and it has an open fire. The fire was never lit by the previous owners. I understand from talking to neighbours that the houses were built with an open fire but there is a gas connection in case owners wanted to install a gas fire.

Any advise as to what to do to shut off this gas connection? Apparently there is pipe near the fireplace. We will also obviously be getting the chimney cleaned. Would appreciate any advise.

    Thank you.

You need to get a registered Gas Installer to disconnect the gas pipe and cap it off, thats what I had to do recently
