New gas boiler quote...opinions

    All,

I just wanted to run a couple of things past you to see if I'm in the right area.

I had a company come and quote for replacing our old bolier, separate pump (above boiler), hot water tank and the pressure vessle (apprantly it's fecked).

They have proposed to install the following:

Ideal Logic 24KW gas boiler (not a system boiler but a variant of it where the pipes terminate at the top as that suits my current setup better)
grunfos central heating pump above the boiler
stainless steel insulated hot water tank (average size)
    new pressure vessle
    inhibitor
    magnaclean filter.

    for a quote of €3,400

They also reckon that the incoming pipe from the gas mains will need to be upgraded to 3/4" in order to meet the flow requirements of the new boiler. If required, this will be another €300.

If I want to change the summer valve to a motorised version that can be controlled by the current programer then that would be an extra €200

For another €300 on top of that again I can upgrade the programmer. I won't be doing that as I'm pretty sure they're ripping me off with the price of the new programmer.

I asked them about powerflushing the system to clean it out and they advised against it. Their reason was that it could put too much pressure on the joints in an old system (approx 20 years old) and that it could lead to leaks, particularly under the floors where they may not be accessible to fix. Instead they have suggested the addition of the magnaclean filter to the system. This seems reasonable, but from reading here it would appear that most people suggest that a powerflush should be done. I would love some opinions please.

I have contacted Electric Ireland with a view to getting a quote from them too before coming back to the original company. Do people reckon I'm getting a reasonable quote or being overcharged, I really don't have any experience in this area.

    Thanks
