While putting the innards of my 2006 Avensis diesel key into a new key shell (the membrane over the buttond was worn away) I managed to lose the little chip that pairs with the immobilíser.
Whats the best way around this?
Can you code another chip to your cars immobiliser?
Can you easily swop the immobiliser (and key chip) from a parts car?
Or am I at the mercy of Toyota?

You used to be able to code Toyota keys yourself by putting the key in the ignition and opening and closing doors etc.
There is probably a how to some where.
I am pretty sure an old chip from the same year can be coded to the car but don't know for sure.

Unfortunately you have a big headache with the chip missing,do you have a spare?
If you do not its a big problem, you can only add a key to the Toyota immobilizer system with a WORKING MASTER key if you do not have that you have to change the settings on the immobilizer box which is a pig of a job. Ring a couple of auto locksmiths to get a price but you have to say you have no keys.
    Hope it helps.

If you're stuck and it's the older timing belt engine I have a replacement key kit from my own D4D including door lock, glovebox and boot lock along with the ecu/immobiliser/ignition barrel and key, of course, sitting to one side. To change all this is easy enough too

PM me if you need it

Not sure about the avensis but I know that with the similar aged Yaris, if you loose the key it's a dash out job to replace the security bits
