Mazda 3

Just looking for a bit of advice.

Need to change car soon - and have been looking at the Mazda 3.
Ideally would hope to get a 2015 Reg....if I can make the budget stretch.

Most models I've seen seem to be diesel.
I think I read somewhere there have historically been issues with some Mazda diesels.

Anyone know if this issue relates to the newer Mazda 3 models?

And would the petrol alternative be much poorer on mpg?

    Thanks.

Yes, different issues but still issues.

Yes, but it’s all relative. Would you be using much fuel either way?

So you mean the diesel in 2015 (or newer) should still be avoided?

I'm doing on average about 12-13000 miles per year btw

Not had any issues at all the two years I have my skyactiv diesel 2016 Mazda 3.

I think they only switched from the PSA 1.6 to their own 1.5 skyactiv diesel recently (maybe 2015) and these don’t seem to be throwing up issues yet anyway.

I can vouch for the 2017 2 litre petrol. I've been driving it like an a-hole since June (mostly in traffic) and my average mpg is showing as 35.

It isn't great power-wise taking off (the 18" alloys don't help) but it is great going from 50 to 100 or on the motorway.

The 1.6 PSA engine went when the current model was launched in 2014. From launch the current model had the 2.2 litre diesel SkyActiv engine from the CX-5 and 6. They then launched a 1.5 litre diesel SkyActiv engine in 2016 which was cheaper than the 2.2 litre engine so most bought the 1.5 litre over the 2.2 litre from then on.

They were also available in 1.5 litre petrol but only in the base model and it had very modest performance. 2.0 litre would be the other petrol option which again had modest performance but would be a safer bet than the diesel especially if you do small mileage.
