Slow filing toilet, convert to push button

The toilet is taking ages to fill up and I have gone on here and google and looked at what could be causing it.

Talking to a plumber who said to change the inner workings at a price of E180

Would prefer new toilet or cistern with push button etc, rather than just inner workings and old pull handle

Is that the going rate or any better ideas?

If the reason the toilet is slow filling is because of a weak supply to it, changing cistern or anything else won't make a difference.

Have you tried disconnecting the ball cock and timing how long it fills without it?

I'd be doing that before considering spending any money. Relatively easy task if you are in any way practical minded but your hands will get wet so don't wear long sleeves.

I took the inner workings apart and let it go without anything and was so strong it splashed onto the wall at the back

Then i tried it without the cap and nipple thing and water was too strong and coming from everywhere

So something is choking the water

Id put money on the problem being the black diaphragm washer in the ballvalve needing replacing. Costs about a euro.

See if you can put up a picture.

Be easier for people to refer to specific locations/items.

There's sometimes a restrictor built into the inlet pipe that's there to reduce pressure if it's plumbed to a mains supply but needs to be removed if, as is mostly the case here, it's connected to a gravity fed supply from a water tank.

100% the washer im talking about, turn off the water and strip the ballvalve apart. Whilst you're at it check the orifice for a blockage, sometimes a bit of crap can make its way down from the tank and block this.

As you strip the ballvalve apart, just make sure you remember what way it goes back together and make sure you put the diaphragm washer in the correct wah around.

Not the best choice of words in this particular instance!
