A great final last night, during an interview post match Stuart Bingham spoke about it being a difficult year in relation to his family. Does anybody know what this was in relation to? Also this is my first day and first post on Boards. I hope I'm doing it right?

I watched the final too, although I'm not a massive follower of snooker and also wondered what he was referring to. I assumed some sort of family tragedy either death or serious illness.

Maybe some of the avid snooker fans can enlighten us?

He had a 3 month suspension from the game for breaking the rules on betting on matches.

Son was in hospital for a bit so that was at least a major part of it anyway.

That makes more sense, he was tearing up. Was never a huge fan of Bingham until last night. But having seen his emotional side how could you not like the guy. Cheers for the replies!

Doubt it, he was very upset and holding back tears. I think someone mentioned his young child being ill, which would be more fitting to the emotions he displayed after the match.
