Using or was using a usb powered drive to watch stuff, randomly it wont play, makes clicking noises etc, so not enough power from box to drive

What could be the cheapest way to fix it

Get a Y cable and have one end into box and other into phone charger to power box?

Get a usb stick or would that have the same issues about being powered?

    Need about 100Gb storage

    Thanks

Clicking sounds on a Hard drive, may signal drive failure, backup your important stuff to newer drive before it fails completely.

Clicking usually indicates the disk is failing, but can also indicate exactly what you describe - lack of power to drive it. Plug it into a PC or laptop that can provide enough power and see if that also causes any clicking.

If its power, then yes, a dual USB cable that can provide more juice, or try flash or SSD storage...

I have it into a a powered hardrive with a hub and working ok, using as backup only just in case

I think ill have to keep an eye on bargain alerts as its only really for down in herself once a week or so

For now I think ill go X265 and smaller versions, only small tv so no real point in proper big hd files, get by with a smaller(8GB USB 3) stick for now
